About Bella

I’m a final-year Modern Languages and Cultures student at Durham University, where I study French and Spanish. I have recently returned from my year abroad, during which I spent several months living in Madrid, studying Spanish and working in a Spanish-speaking environment. I have achieved C1 level Spanish and have previous experience privately tutoring A-Level Spanish.

I also have experience working as a gap-year assistant at a prep school, where I worked closely with children of different ages. This gave me valuable experience supporting younger students and adapting the way I communicate depending on the individual.

Having learnt Spanish as a second language myself, I understand first-hand both the challenges of learning a language and how rewarding it is to become confident enough to genuinely use it. I particularly enjoy helping students overcome the fear of making mistakes and become more confident speaking.

I’m friendly, patient and enthusiastic, and I’m happy to work with learners of different ages and abilities – whether that means introducing a younger student to Spanish, helping with schoolwork or exams, or supporting an adult who wants to learn Spanish for travel, conversation or personal interest.

About the lesson

My lessons are tailored to each student’s level, goals and learning style. I aim to make Spanish enjoyable and approachable, combining clear explanations of grammar and vocabulary with practical speaking, listening and conversation practice to help students build confidence using the language.

Having learnt Spanish as a second language myself, I understand the areas that English-speaking students often find difficult and can explain grammar and concepts from a learner’s perspective. I currently study Spanish as part of my Modern Languages and Cultures degree at Durham University, have achieved C1 level Spanish, and recently spent several months living in Madrid, where I studied and worked in Spanish. I also have previous experience providing private tuition to an A-Level Spanish student.

Lessons are typically one hour and are adapted to the individual student. I welcome learners of all ages and abilities, including children and younger students, GCSE and A-Level students, complete beginners and adults looking to improve their Spanish for conversation, travel or personal interest.

For school students, lessons can focus on areas such as grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, reading, writing, homework support and exam preparation. For those learning outside school, lessons can be shaped around your personal goals and the Spanish you are most interested in using.

Above all, I aim to create a relaxed and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and gaining confidence speaking Spanish.
