About Emily

I’m an economics student at the University of Bristol, originally from London. At A-Level I achieved A*A*A*A in Economics, Geography, Mathematics and Further Maths, alongside a Distinction in my LAMDA Grade 8 Public Speaking qualification. At GCSE I received 11 A* equivalent grades. I have experience tutoring both GCSE and A-Level students, as well as supporting 17–18 year olds as a peer mentor in Maths and Economics during college. These roles, combined with part-time work at Waitrose, my local pub, and as a nanny, have given me valuable experience working with people of all ages and backgrounds in different settings and have developed my communication, patience and empathy. Beyond academics, I love travelling, having recently explored Southeast Asia and Europe, and I also enjoy festivals, concerts, sport and spending time with friends. These experiences have shaped me into someone who is organised, approachable and adaptable, and I bring this energy into my lessons.

About the lesson

My lessons are designed to be encouraging and supportive, with a main focus on building a student’s confidence in the subject. Having achieved 3 A*s at A-Level myself, I know first-hand how important it is not just to learn the content but also to understand how to apply it effectively in exams. I place strong emphasis on exam technique, as this is often what makes the difference between grades. I bring a wide range of resources that I’ve collected throughout my GCSEs, A-Levels and tutoring experience, so students always have high-quality materials to work with. I also understand what it’s like to be studying in today’s world, with AI, distractions and different pressures, and can offer strategies for navigating this successfully. My lessons are completely tailored to each student’s needs, whether that’s going over challenging topics, preparing for assessments, or focusing on motivation and organisation. I usually work via Google Meet in a shared Google Classroom to make resource sharing seamless. For Maths, I use collaborative whiteboards such as Miro or Notes to make working through problems interactive and clear. I also go beyond lessons to support my students. I’m happy to mark and review work in my spare time at no extra cost, and I’m contactable via WhatsApp for quick questions, especially during exam season when students need reassurance most. I can also provide parents with feedback sheets to track progress and help keep students on track with deadlines. Above all, I believe the most important part of learning is confidence. A positive mindset towards studying and exams can transform a student’s results and self-belief. This is at the heart of my teaching, and I always aim to help my students not only achieve the grades they want but also feel proud of their progress.
