My teaching methods are very Socratic, I like to ask leading questions that make you think and eventually you will be able to ask the questions yourself and learn from your answers! I'm a very patient teacher, and have also worked with a lot of people with special needs before. I'm actually on the autistic spectrum and music is my special interest, so you're in good hands!
A typical music theory lesson with me begins with a presentation, usually on Google Sheets or on a keyboard depending on what we're covering, writing out/practicing music theory/composition elements, and a review of the topics we've learned. Then at the end of each module I send out a quiz, to see where you're at, comprehension-wise.
Topics covered: pitch and notation, rhythm and meter, intervals, scales, chords and harmony, form and analysis. For Music History, I cover basic terminology, the study of musical eras, the study of composers and musical artists, study of musical compositions, identification of excerpts.
I am a music teacher in the Greater Edmonton Area, and have been giving private lessons for 10 years now. I have been studying music since I was 3 and have won international competitions. I have a BMus in Piano and Organ with honours. I'm looking forward to teaching you - teaching is my passion and I love to see students succeed! I teach the Royal Conservatory of Music standard for music theory.
I have a 24 hour cancellation policy. If you contact me before then, we can reschedule the lesson. Any cancellation 24 hours or less will be up to the teacher. Special exemptions such as family emergency or serious illness (broken bones, bedridden sickness, hospitalization) will be applied and you will get a free make-up lesson. Any other illnesses such as runny nose or slight coughing do not apply. Basically, if you aren't dizzy or otherwise incapacitated and your ability to play the piano isn't compromised, you can have a lesson.

I have known Elsie for a long time ever since she was a young student. Her parents got her involved at a young age and music has been her life and passion ever since. Growing up, her natural sense of musicality was honed by her added participation in song and dance. To her, notes on a page isn't just a formula for a robotic reproduction, but a language to express life's thoughts and emotions. Elsie conveys the joy of music through her enthusiasm and dedication while teaching all her students from young children to adults. - Doug
