The methodology depends on the size of the class, the age of the class members and the level of English sought.
First, I engage students with a question or concept and allow them to participate freely, then I task them, generally with an exercise using the concept and vocabulary, and finally I have practical exercises that include oral presentations or written exercises, depending on the intended outcome.
As students learn from repetition I tend to circle back and review lessons (vocabulary, grammar, idioms) from previous classes as the introduction to engage students in the subsequent classes.
I have taught English writing and speaking to native English speakers (including engineers, economists, lawyers and healthcare professionals) here in Toronto, and overseas to professionals who are ESL students.
I speak French, German and Russian, and studied grammar and pronunciation at University of Toronto
