About Alan
I have a BSc. in Civil Engineering, an MSc in Disaster Management and an MSc in Water and Sanitation Engineering. I have only recently turned to teaching but have a great deal of practical experience to draw on which enables me to contextualise maths and give it real meaning.

My teaching method works to link pupils' learning as they progress through each topic, building on previously learned skills. This is opposed to teaching distinct blocks of knowledge which are more easily forgotten. As far as possible, I use problem solving examples once the basic principles have been taught. Maths is about problem solving so why not make that the focus of the lessons!!
