About Devin

I am a 22 year old former engineering major. I completed 3 out of 5 years of engineering before switching to a degree in business and finance to pursue a career in entrepreneurship in the construction and real estate markets.

Past experience:

I have worked as a math tutor before under Tutor Doctor and very much enjoyed it. (2018-2019)

I have worked with youth for years, logging over 700 hours since 2014 volunteering at summer camps as a counselor.

I have often tutored in math and science on the side to help people I know or children of people I know who are struggling to understand math.

About me:

I am bilingual with ability to speak and understand French and English as well as read and write. English is however my preferred language.

I'm a very passionate teacher and I love to engage with the youth and not only help them improve and understand science and math, but also to help build an appreciation and a love for the subjects as well that will serve them well throughout their academic journey and through life long after I have gone.

I describe myself as someone who is very professional but likes to keep things light hearted, and the environment comfortable for everyone. I often crack silly jokes and sometimes the occasional bad pun.

About the lesson

My teaching methodology is very simple in nature. Students are often given plenty of homework and practice problems from their teachers at school. Each session I will go over the material being taught and make sure the base concept is understood, then spend the rest of the session practicing with homework and practice problems ensuring that the concepts are understood on the way. If there are no questions assigned I have in the past come up with my own.

I believe that in all things, practice makes perfect. This includes math and science as well, you will always get better results from actually doing and solving the problems on your own than you would if you just read and reviewed them. I have seen the grades of my former students increase by as much as 25% and in some cases higher. When studying these concepts that seem so confusing at first, students often describe a moment where it all finally 'clicks'. This is the moment I strive to reach with all my students in every session.
