About Samuel

I know firsthand how difficult grasping new concepts and adapting to fast-paced learning environments can be. I came from a small, rural town of less than 1500 people where high school support and resources were extremely limited. When I started my post-secondary degree at the University of British Columbia (UBC), I suddenly found myself in a sea of 50,000+ talented students. I didn't want to be swallowed up. I learned quickly and decided to figure out how I could best differentiate myself from the crowd. My learning journey started with that decision, and now I'd like to help as many people as possible in their learning journeys. I bring my insights, sympathy, and compassion into every lesson and always do my best to ensure that a student walks away more confident and inspired than before.

My credentials as a tutor:

A little bit more about me:
I am a 23 year-old currently based in Vancouver, Canada. I like to spread my time between my work in biotech or being outdoors in parks or on bike trails. Apart from my scientific work, I also enjoy artistic hobbies such as graphic design and photography.

About the lesson

I sincerely enjoy providing learning experiences that change the way a student sees the world and what they are learning, and I always try my best to help students not just with class material, but with many other general learning and life skills at the same time. Primarily, I teach students conceptual and technical abilities through several key ideas:

> Students learn best when topics emphasize their personal passions and interests, as well as the reasons why we learn things in the first place

> Content learned in class serves as the foundation for real-world applications and problem-solving

> Most learning happens through hands-on, practical experiences

> Eye-opening (mind-blowing) learning experiences stick with students the longest

I tutor at all levels, ranging from early middle school to university. My expertise is especially in biology, but I also teach various topics throughout engineering and science. On top of specific course material, I greatly aid writing skills (e.g., essays, thesis preparation) and I like to provide help with job and school applications, CVs, and resumes too.
