About Jack

My name is Jack Matthews and I grew up in the local market town of Romsey in Hampshire. I studied at Romsey Abbey Primary School and then Romsey School where I received an A grade in both English and Maths, as well as 11 other GCSEs.

From there, I went to Peter Symonds Sixth Form College in Winchester and received an A grade in Economics, IT and Mathematics. It was here that I discovered my passion for Economics and Finance and took a keen interest in the wider application of the subject in the real-world.

I decided to study Economics at the University of Southampton where I obtained a first-class honours degree (with an overall average of 78%). I received the Roy Chang prize for my year's cohort for outstanding performance in a quantitative field. The mathematical content of modern economic theory always appealed to me and I have been able to make good use of it since leaving University.

In 2015 I joined the educational tech start-up company EzyEducation where we built and launched a business around building bespoke course content for schools, teachers and individuals. I have since gone on to apply my skills to manage all of the digital course content at the company. Here I have been challenged with building eye-catching content to meet different learning needs for schools, teachers and students. Throughout my time at the company I have developed an excellent appreciation of how to break down complex topics to make them easier to digest, which could certainly add value to your learning outcomes.

About the lesson

My time spent working at Ezyeducation has given me a broader understanding of the concept of "learning". Moving away from a sharp focus on endless pages in a textbook towards creatively building the knowledge and understanding needed to construct a coherent response in exams.

I focus not only on the specific course content, but also like to focus on developing exam technique and skills. I firmly believe that any candidate that wants to do well at GCSE and A-level needs to have strong exam technique. For essay based subjects these are the sort of skills that do not get enough focus in class due to the time pressure of teaching hours.

I have a wealth of digital resources at my disposal to use to help build confidence and improve learning outcomes for students of all levels and backgrounds.

I typically offer sessions of between 45-60 minutes, but can increase the length of sessions if required. I will create a bespoke scheme of work for you to follow throughout our sessions together, which can be amended by you to suit your learning requirements.
