About Guy
I am an ESL and French Tutor with extensive experience and training. I am Tesl, Celta certified, and a U of T graduate. I have taken courses with Alliance Francaise to improve my grammar. I am currently studying Hebrew at the Rosen School. I have worked with all ages and nationalities. I specialize in Pronunciation to address accent issues. I cater to musical students who want to incorporate music into the lessons especially when it comes to pronunciation. This involves singing with guitar accompaniment delivered with skill and finesse. I can customize lessons and produce student centered activities to engage my students. In addition to teaching/tutoring, I have worked in banking ,customer service, and sales in both English and French. I believe it is important for a teacher to have important work experience outside of education so they can better relate to wider variety of people and activities. If need be, I can also tutor world history and the social sciences. My avid reading, and commitment to community and worldly affairs allows me to be an effective tutor when it comes to economics, politics, and cultural analysis. I learned my French in the Paris region. I went to school in Europe until we immigrated to Canada when I was11. I have travelled abroad and lived in Toronto for 20 years, so I can confidently say that I am familiar and comfortable in a Cosmopolitan setting. I currently reside on the Sunshine Coast in BC. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world and it puts me in a good mood as I work from home.

Pronunciation lessons improve the quality of your life. It helps you with clear speech so you won't be asked to repeat yourself so many times. With better pronunciation it will be easier to integrate yourself in an English context so you can have more social success. I learned English at 11 as a new immigrant, so I can relate to the struggle involved in making your mouth do strange things in unnatural ways. Adult learners have problems understanding a new phonetic system- the pattern of sounds of a language. Professional intervention is necessary to make a considerable leap into a new phonetic system, namely English or French. I will analyze the phonetic system of your language and identify key areas (vowel, stress ...) that pose a particular problem. I have extensive training and experience in this matter. I will use books, internet resources, and my own material gathered over a long period of time . In addition, I encourage my student to sing with me as I play guitar to address nagging pronunciation issues. The songs or artists will be chosen by the student to promote participation My style is friendly and patient. I value rapport and connection with my students. Teaching/tutoring a meaningful engagement with a person in need. I want to bring seriousness and levity in the right proportions in order to encourage and propel my students to levels of English or French proficiency they thought would be impossible. Pronunciation is too hard to learn effectively on your own because of the deceptive complexity of English pronunciation. A student needs at teacher to monitor how they speak and what needs to be done for a new phonetic system to take firmer roots. This is intellectual and physical education which can only be properly done with a profound understanding on how sounds are generated in communication. Pronunciation is an aspect of ESL learning that is often ignore or taught badly. I can help fill in the gap even if the student is very accomplished in other aspects of language production such vocabulary or grammar.
