About Genevieve

My journey with Excel started from recognising its ability to organise and analyse data efficiently. I earned a Bachelor’s in Information Technology, which gave me practical experience in spreadsheets, automation, and reporting. Over the past 8 years, I have helped students and professionals of varying skill levels build confidence and expertise in Excel by teaching in a patient, structured, and hands-on way.

I believe the best learning comes from practice and clear understanding. I break down Excel functions, formulae, and tools into manageable steps while demonstrating their application in realistic scenarios. I encourage learners to ask questions, attempt exercises during lessons, and develop problem-solving skills, ensuring they understand how to apply what they learn. My teaching emphasises both technical competence and conceptual clarity so that students can work independently and efficiently.

Outside teaching, I continually explore new Excel tools, functions, and automation techniques. This keeps my lessons current and relevant, allowing me to bring real-world insights into the classroom. Teaching Excel is deeply rewarding because I witness students gain independence, organisation, and confidence. Helping learners unlock the practical power of Excel and see tangible results from their efforts is one of the most fulfilling aspects of my work.

About the lesson

Excel becomes much easier to understand when learners see its direct applications in daily work, academics, or projects. In my lessons, I cover essential topics such as formulae, functions, pivot tables, conditional formatting, data analysis, charts, and dashboards. I focus on explaining each tool in simple steps while encouraging students to experiment with their data and practise exercises during class. This approach allows learners to gain confidence gradually and understand the “why” behind each Excel feature rather than just memorising steps. I create a warm, supportive environment that fosters curiosity and problem-solving, ensuring every student feels comfortable asking questions or trying new features without hesitation.

I tailor lessons according to the student’s level. Beginners focus on basic navigation, simple formulae, cell formatting, and creating tables or charts. Intermediate students learn functions, conditional formatting, logical formulae, and organising large datasets efficiently. Advanced learners explore pivot tables, macros, complex functions, automation tools, and advanced reporting techniques that are valuable in academic or professional contexts. Every lesson is structured to give clear explanations, hands-on exercises, and immediate feedback, ensuring mastery of each concept before moving forward.

Excel lessons also improve logical thinking, analytical skills, and organisation. Students learn to work systematically, solve problems independently, and handle real-world data tasks with confidence. They become efficient and precise in both academic and workplace scenarios. My goal is to empower learners to use Excel creatively, manage information effectively, and feel confident navigating complex datasets, so the skills they gain are practical, transferable, and long-lasting.
