About Eliane

My Work Experience:

I have years of experience being a private English and ESL Tutor. From 2010 to 2015, and then briefly in 2020, I taught English to a number of students in Montreal and on the South Shore in Quebec. The ages of these students ranged from 5 years old to adult. I taught lessons online through Skype and in person (one-on-one).

From 2006 to 2008, I was an ESL Teacher at a Language School named Excelangue in Montreal. I was responsible for teaching English to small groups of children between the ages of 4 and 17. These classes were given in person.

Where I learned the most about teaching was at St-George's School of Montreal from 2003 to 2009. This is a prestigious private school in Westmount, Quebec. Here I worked as a Substitute Teacher, Pre-kindergarten Teacher, and an Assistant Teacher in kindergarten. I learned a tremendous amount from the master teachers at this school.

I was After-School Teacher at St-George’s School of Montreal from 2003 to 2005. I was responsible for the care and activities of the children ages 4 to 8.

I was the Arts & Crafts Specialist at the Westmount YMCA during their summer 2003 camp season. The children were ages 4 to 12.

Another place where I learned a great deal about teaching was at The Reading Foundation in Calgary, Alberta. From 2001. I was trained and worked at a clinic that specializes in teaching children with learning disabilities such as dyslexia and ADHD. This was a particularly rewarding experience and I appreciated seeing the results achieved from specialized one-on-one attention to students with difficulties.

My first significant opportunity to interact with adolescents was when I volunteered for a couple of months as a tutor and support staff at The Beltline Youth Drop-In in Calgary, AB in 2000. I spent some time weekly with the kids who needed some extra support that was not available in the home. We worked on homework together and played games.

About the lesson

I am an experienced teacher offering online English and ESL lessons. I have taught a wide variety of students in both schools and privately. I have taught students from 4 years old to adult. I have a Bachelor's degree and a TESL certificate. I have also completed some online courses in early childhood education.

For older students, I offer tutoring that helps them succeed with their English classes in school and puts them on the right track to fluency. My lessons include assessments and a focus on the needs of the particular student. I also offer conversation English for adults and Business English lessons.

For younger students, my classes include a warm-up/engagement period to start. This is in order to get comfortable and be relaxed in order to communicate effectively and learn. Following that, there is an introduction to the lesson of the day which is theme-based and includes vocabulary, comprehension, grammar, etc.. I like to include a few activities for practice to ensure understanding. Finally, there is a time to apply what has been learned and practiced. This is the moment when the focus becomes more on fluency. To finish off the lesson, I review with the student and offer a virtual reward to the students. Throughout the lesson, I provide interactive and enjoyable activities that lead to overall improvement and ease of speaking the language.
