About Thais

Olá, tudo bem? I’m Thais, your Brazilian Portuguese teacher with a lifelong passion for languages and culture. I grew up traveling across Brazil with my parents exposed me early on to the country's rich accents, regional expressions, and diversity, and fueled by curiosity and a love for Brazilian culture and literature, I earned my degree in Literature and Linguistics focused in Brazilian Portuguese at the University of São Paulo (USP). I began my teaching journey over a decade ago through a volunteer project, and have since taught students of all ages.

Today, I teach Portuguese to international students worldwide while speaking English, Spanish, and learning French, giving me a firsthand understanding of what it feels like to learn a new language. Bora aprender português? (Let's learn Portuguese?)

About the lesson

My approach is communicative, student-centered, and deeply rooted in contextual learning. I integrate both language mechanics and real-world cultural context into every session. Rather than relying on rigid, one-size-fits-all textbooks, I blend grammar, conversation, reading, and writing using dynamic, practical materials, such as Brazilian music, literature, and everyday cultural scenarios.
With over 8 years of teaching experience working with both native speakers and foreign learners, I combine deep academic expertise with a flexible, highly empathetic teaching style. Having graduated from the University of São Paulo (USP), I offer students an authentic connection to Brazilian Portuguese and its rich cultural nuances.
My lessons welcome learners of all ages, backgrounds and proficiency levels, from absolute beginners taking their first steps to advanced speakers polishing their nuance and fluency. Whether you are learning Portuguese for travel, professional growth, heritage connections, academic goals, or pure passion for Brazilian culture, each learning plan is custom-tailored to your precise needs and schedule.
