About Terry
I am a Band 8c mental health nurse with extensive experience in clinical practice, leadership, education and professional development. Throughout my career, I have supported people experiencing a wide range of mental health difficulties, while working collaboratively with patients, families, carers and multidisciplinary teams to promote recovery, safety, dignity and compassionate care.
I chose to teach because I am passionate about helping future and current healthcare professionals develop the knowledge, confidence and clinical skills they need to provide high-quality mental health care. I understand that nursing education can sometimes feel challenging, particularly when connecting academic theory to real-life clinical situations. My aim is to make learning clear, supportive, practical and relevant to your individual goals.
I provide personalised online mentoring and teaching for mental health nursing students, newly qualified nurses, healthcare assistants and professionals preparing for interviews or career progression.
Sessions can cover:
• Mental health nursing and psychiatric practice
• Mental state examinations and clinical documentation
• Risk assessment, formulation and management
• Understanding psychiatric diagnoses and treatments
• Psychopharmacology for non-medical students
• Personality disorders, trauma and self-harm
• Suicide prevention and crisis intervention
• The Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and CTOs
• Care planning and multidisciplinary working
• Case presentations and reflective practice
• University assignments and academic development
• Placement preparation and clinical confidence
• NHS application forms and supporting statements
• Band 5, Band 6 and Band 7 interview preparation
• Mock interviews with constructive feedback
• Leadership development for senior nurses
Each lesson is adapted to your experience, learning needs and professional goals. I use realistic clinical scenarios, structured explanations and practical examples to help you connect theory with clinical practice.
As a senior nurse and educator, I want to encourage you to think critically, communicate confidently and develop your own professional identity. Whether you are preparing for your first placement, completing your nursing degree, starting your career or progressing into a senior role, I will provide a safe and encouraging learning environment where you can ask questions, build confidence and develop your skills.
