About Elena
My lessons are designed to be fun, engaging, and confidence-building, especially for beginner and developing skaters. I focus on creating a positive learning environment where children feel comfortable trying new skills without fear of making mistakes. I break skating skills down into clear, simple steps and use age-appropriate explanations, demonstrations, and repetition. I often incorporate games and challenges to keep lessons interactive and enjoyable, which helps younger skaters stay focused and motivated. The skills I teach and work with students to better develop include: Proper Hockey Stops, Quick starts and powerful acceleration, forwards and backwards skating, crossovers, and the development of stronger, longer and more powerful strides. My lessons are best suited for beginner and early-level skaters, particularly younger children who are new to hockey or skating. I specialize in working with kids who may need extra patience, encouragement, and confidence-building.

Hi! My name is Elena, and I’m a current McGill University student with seven years of competitive hockey experience and a strong passion for teaching skating to children. I began playing hockey later than most (at age 11) which meant skating with younger players and working hard to catch up. That experience gave me a deep understanding of how challenging and frustrating learning to skate can feel, especially for beginners. Through dedication, private lessons, and many skills camps, I significantly improved my skating technique and confidence on the ice. I played competitive hockey for seven years, served as co-captain of my high school team, and attended numerous skating and hockey development camps. I had to step away from competitive hockey due to concussions, but this has motivated me to share my knowledge in a safe, positive, and encouraging way. In addition to my hockey background, I have extensive experience working with children. I have worked as a camp counselor for a children’s camp and have experience babysitting, which has helped me develop patience, strong communication skills, and the ability to create a fun, supportive learning environment. I also have experience as a private skating coach, including helping a beginner skater learn to stop powerfully and confidently in just five lessons. My goal is to help young skaters feel confident, supported, and excited to improve each time they step on the ice.
