About Samantha

I am a certified teacher with over 6 years of experience teaching and tutoring students from Kindergarten through Grade 8. I currently work with the York Region District School Board and have extensive experience supporting students in reading, writing, and language development.

I specialize in helping students strengthen their literacy skills, whether it’s building reading fluency, improving comprehension, developing strong writing skills, or enhancing vocabulary and grammar. I’ve worked with students at all levels, from those who need extra support to those who want to extend their skills and be challenged further.

My approach is patient, supportive, and tailored to each child’s needs. I focus on building confidence while making reading and writing engaging and accessible. My goal is to help students not only succeed academically, but also discover the joy of language and communication.

About the lesson

Each tutoring session is tailored to your child’s specific needs and goals. I begin by getting to know their current skill level, learning style, and areas of strength, and then I design lessons that are engaging, supportive, and effective.

During sessions, we may focus on:
- Reading fluency & comprehension: Guided reading, strategies for understanding text, and building confidence as a reader.
- Writing skills: From sentence structure and paragraph writing to essays, creative writing, and organizing ideas clearly.
- Spelling, vocabulary, and grammar: Strengthening the foundations for effective communication.
- Homework & school assignments: Targeted support to ensure your child feels prepared and capable.
- Study skills & organization: Helping students manage their work and develop good habits for long-term success.

Sessions are interactive and adaptable. I use a mix of direct instruction, practice activities, and fun learning games to keep students engaged. I also provide feedback and strategies they can use in the classroom.

My goal is not just to improve grades, but to help your child develop confidence, independence, and a lifelong love for reading and writing.
