About Rachel

I currently work in a senior clinical leadership role within an NHS mental health service, with a professional background in psychological interventions. I am a BABCP registered Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner and have also completed NHS coaching training.

Recruitment is a huge part of my career. I have led on interview panels for a variety of roles at different levels as well as planned the entire recruitment process from creating job descriptions and person specifications, to designing interview questions all the way through to induction/onboarding and beyond.

I have many years of experience helping people to develop and overcome their own internal challenges and external barriers. A big part of my work has focused on the employee's journey, guiding them through training roles, creating preceptorship programmes, and focusing on skills development opportunities. I am incredibly passionate about helping people realise and utilise their own "super powers" and continue to grow towards their goals.

My background in psychological interventions also influences the way I work. I am particularly interested in what gets in the way when capable people struggle to communicate what they can do - whether that's confidence, anxiety, overthinking, difficulty recognising their strengths or simply not knowing what an interview panel is looking for.

While I bring knowledge and experience I also bring the human factor. I am warm and supportive, but I will also give you honest and constructive feedback. I will always do so with compassion, empathy as well as encouragement and empowerment. I also believe in the power of active self-reflection to recognise and reinforce key learning we take from every experience.

I also bring my previous experience as a clinical educator training new clinical staff as part of a post-graduate and apprenticeship course, so have a teaching background and training.

Although my own professional experience is predominantly within the NHS and healthcare, you are very welcome to work with me if you're applying in another sector. Good interview preparation is ultimately about understanding what is being assessed, recognising what you can bring and how to communicate it effectively.

About the lesson

My sessions are practical, personalised and based on real recruitment experience. I prioritise experiential learning and self reflection to help you find what makes you special and sell it! This method also means I can support problem solving internal barriers like imposter syndrome and lack of confidence/anxiety.

I will use my extensive experience from leading on hundreds of interviews from trainee roles to leadership positions, and planning recruitment such as shortlisting, designing person specifications and writing interview questions and tasks. I also bring own current experience working in a clinical leadership role in NHS mental health service, to make ensure my lessons are true to real life.

- 30-minute free lesson
Your free 20-minute introductory session is a chance for us to discuss the role you are applying for, your previous interview experience and what you would most like help with. We will identify where you're getting stuck, and which of the lesson options available would be most suitable for you. And of course, it is your chance to interview me a little.

- Interview Preparation Sessions are collaborative. Before we meet, I'll ask you to send the job description and person specification so I can familiarise myself with the role. During our 60 minute session, we'll look at what the employer is actually assessing, identify strong examples from your experience, work on structuring your answers and develop a realistic preparation plan. We can cover things like competency, values and scenario-based questions, what and how to revise, researching the organisation, and managing nerves or going blank.

- Mock interviews are deliberately different. I will review the vacancy and documents beforehand and prepare realistic questions. When you join the session, the interview begins and I will act as the interviewer without coaching you through your answers for around 40 minutes. Afterwards, for the final 20 minutes, we will step out of interview mode and I will give you detailed, constructive feedback on your examples, answer structure, communication and areas to strengthen before the real interview.

- I can also help you review an unsuccessful interview, understand the feedback you've received and work out what to approach differently next time.

- I also provide more general career coaching, particularly for those exploring positions in healthcare, progressing/transitioning to their first leadership roles and those seeking their very first/trainee roles. You don't need to work in healthcare to book with me - many of the principles of strong interview preparation are transferable across sectors.

My approach is not about giving you scripted "perfect answers" to memorise. I want you to leave with a clearer understanding of what interviewers are looking for, recognising the evidence you already have, and feeling more confident and better equipped to prepare and perform at your very best
