About Chris

I am an Engineering Manager at Bellroy, based in Melbourne, Australia. I’ve been writing software for over 15 years, starting with scripting languages like PHP and Ruby and moving recently into functional programming using Haskell and also TypeScript. I am fluent in most web-based technology from frameworks to infrastructure.

About the lesson

My teaching method is very much based on achieving an outcome that resonates with students. Then tying that back to fundamentals so that we aren’t just learning how to do things in specific environments, but so that you can take those skills and build on them to solve your own problems. I like storytelling and explaining concepts in plain English before diving into the technicalities. I consider it a way of building bridges between where a student is and their intended destination.

Tom has recently started with programming and the boot camp that he attended has started him on the right path. There's much to reinforce in terms of some of the basics however Tom is keen to learn, has a creative approach to solving problems and was generally, a great and friendly student to mentor.
