About Sean

I've been sewing most of my life and teaching for about 15 years. While I've professionally had very niche specialties (bespoke men's underwear being a particularly proud area of focus,) I've managed to keep my classes broad and accessible. I pride myself on the work I put into developing each class session to perfectly suit the student's needs, goals and abilities, and I hope those efforts work as intended and I'm able to help you accomplish your goals and hopefully even more. I also always teach at a pay-what-you-can rate. Regardless of my personal financial situation (I'm sure you can make a guess as to how well a part-time sewing instructor is doing in 2025,) I could never justify prohibitive cost for anything I offer. If you have the money to pay more and you think I'm worth it, please help me get more to eat than what food stamps get this month, but if money is tight, that shouldn't stand in your way. I haven't figured it out yet, but I think I have to make a separate class to charge a different amount, but I'll do that for whatever the minimum rate is ($20/hr, I believe.) If you're curious though, my standard rate is $30/hr.

About the lesson

Hi! My name is Sean, and I teach just about anything you might want to learn about sewing and sewing machines. Have a specific project you want to tackle? Let's get you there and master all the relevant skills along the way. Just want a general, all-around sewing education? I've got comprehensive but flexible plans for beginners, intermediate, and advanced sewists. Some other specific courses I've offered in the past are:

Machine Mastery: get to know the ins and outs of your machine, especially useful for modern computerized machines. We'll go over every function and feature and do a few simple projects utilizing some of the more unique capabilities of your specific machine.

All About Alterations (and Alliteration): Do you think you have a "weird body" cause nothing fits you right off the rack? Or rather, have the random measurements deemed "standard" by some old white dude who died a hundred years ago given you the false impression that your body was the problem? Yeah no. Your body's rad. Fix the clothes to fit your body, not the other way around.

Sewing for Men: No, this is not catered to male students (though more dudes should sew, so...maybe) but rather sewing menswear. This is an intermediate/advanced course that will go over some basic tailoring skills, and culminate in a finished pair of trousers (intermediate) or a suit jacket (advanced.)

Sewing Machine Maintenance: just what it sounds like. Save yourself the cost of getting your machine service every year and learn to do it yourself!
