About Michael
I have a degree in Mathematics, a degree in Philosophy, and decades of experience helping students understand and excel in physics, chemistry, and all levels of math -- students from public schools, homeschools, colleges, and elite private schools. My credentials also include a Texas Teacher's Certificate in Secondary Mathematics and a certificate as a MovNat Level 2 Fitness Trainer. My experience in education includes teaching in schools and tutoring privately.
Having studied the history and philosophy of physics, tracing out its logical development step by step from ancient times to modern, and having studied some history and philosophy of mathematics and chemistry, I understand how math and science fit together and develop. That helps me help you.
I have a degree in Philosophy, so naturally enough have all sorts of interests, and so can connect math and science to your real-world interests and career goals: engineering, science, law, fitness, health, biology, ecology, the arts, aesthetics, politics, education, design, marketing, etc.

I'll strive to make sure you leave a session with confidence and mastery. I'll strive to make math and science clear, and to make them make sense.
In our sessions, I'll work on helping you develop an understanding of whatever topics and concepts you need help with. If you need help with a calculus derivative, geometric proof, physics problem, or chemical equation, I will help you know how to solve it and help you understand the general concept.
And, over the long term, I will also work to help you understand how a concept or topic connects to the whole subject and how it connects to other things you know -- as, for example, Abraham Lincoln did with geometric proofs, reasoning, debate, and law. Such a deep understanding is what helped people like Marie Curie and Richard Feynman.
What's more important, as we work together long-term, I'll strive to help you learn, understand, and practice thinking skills that will help beyond the immediate subject or problem. (For example, I could help you understand the thinking skills of Sherlock Holmes more deeply and clearly than most people know, and make it clear whether he used induction or deduction.) I'll strive to help you better understand how to understand things on your own for your future in college and career.
I will share extra materials and resources with you to help you succeed, learn, understand, and grow beyond the time we work together.

Michael Gold is an outstanding tutor in philosophical logic, combining intelligence with a deep and wide-ranging academic background. He goes far beyond just being a teacher, not only in his mastery of complex concepts but in his ability to explain them clearly and thoughtfully. Patient, kind, and remarkably perceptive, he brings sound judgment and genuine care with him every session. I strongly recommend him for anyone.
Michael is a capable tutor of logic and philosophy. I have done a half dozen podcast interviews with him over the past few years. As a teacher of philosophy for 35 years, I can say that he’s capable of deep thought and helping others make logical connections.
I met Michael when I needed tutoring for precalculus during my senior year of high school. He helped me better understand the concepts I struggled with by linking them to my interests and the field of study that I would later go into. I also worked with Michael when I needed tutoring for chemistry during my second year of college.
His methods of bringing real-world logic/examples and applying them to the subject being studied have helped me a lot throughout college. He also supplies supplemental and insightful readings, worksheets, or breakdowns of helpful concepts that he comes across.
He makes sure that you can truly understand the subject rather than just memorize it. My current studies in ecology apply the subjects that Michael helped me visualize specifically for this field.
I highly recommend Michael, and his methods of improved thinking skills have helped me a ton. We’ve had an excellent experience with Michael. He has been incredibly effective in helping our high schooler with math, physics, and SAT prep. Michael is able to explain difficult concepts clearly and build both understanding and confidence.
Our son has become much stronger academically and far less stressed in these subjects. The sessions are always productive, focused, and encouraging. We highly recommend them to any family looking for a knowledgeable, reliable, and supportive tutor.View more recommendations
