About Kristen

I am a theater educator, costume designer, production manager, and creative business owner with extensive experience helping students transform ideas into finished work. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts from Texas A&M University, with training in costume design and construction, costume history, scenic design, technical theater, and production.

During a fifteen year tenure as a Director of Theater Arts, I directed and produced more than 60 productions while teaching costume construction, sewing, design, stagecraft, and creative problem-solving. I now continue that work through Peabody & Posey, where I create custom costumes, accessories, headpieces, home décor, and upcycled pieces.

I am a patient, encouraging, and detail-oriented instructor who understands that every student learns differently. My goal is to create a welcoming space where questions are encouraged, mistakes become part of the creative process, and students leave each lesson feeling more capable, knowledgeable, and excited to continue creating.

About the lesson

My lessons are personalized, practical, and project-based. We’ll begin by discussing your experience, creative goals, and the project or skill you would like to master. From there, I’ll demonstrate each technique, break the process into manageable steps, and guide you as you practice it yourself.

A typical lesson may include reviewing tools and materials, demonstrating a new skill, working together on your project, troubleshooting challenges, and ending with clear next steps you can continue independently.

What sets me apart is my combination of professional teaching, theater production, costume design, sewing, and creative-business experience. I don’t simply show students how to complete one project—I help them understand construction, fit, fabric, technique, and design choices so they can approach future projects with greater confidence.

Lessons are appropriate for complete beginners, returning sewists, theater and costume students, creative makers, and experienced students seeking help with garment construction, alterations, patterns, draping, upcycling, costumes, accessories, or home décor. Every lesson is adapted to the student’s pace, learning style, and creative vision.

Details

Students should have access to their own sewing machine, basic tools, patterns, fabric, and project materials. Before purchasing anything new, we can review what you already own and determine what is actually needed.

My hourly rate covers personalized instruction, demonstrations, project guidance, and lesson preparation. Any fabric, notions, patterns, specialty supplies, or outside workspace fees are separate and will always be discussed in advance. For in-person lessons requiring extended travel, any additional travel cost will also be agreed upon before booking.
