About Jack

I've been playing guitar for basically my entire life, I do covers of popular songs, study songwriting, and have a passion for teaching.

My teaching experience has been limited to friends that I've met, family, collegues and peers. However I have taught alot of lessons. My teaching style is laid back, and I can guarantee you'll be able to play your first song with only one lesson.

I attended college for three years with an emphasis in vocal music performance. This means that I have a grasp of most stringed instruments, and that I have an intermediate to advanced knowledge of music theory.

I have been playing the violincello for twenty two years in both contemporary and orchestral settings.

I was a two time all-state choral singer in High School, and performed at Carnegie Hall my senior year as a soloist.

Since then I have been preforming acoustic guitar in a variety of settings. Folk bands, folk punk bands, accompaning female vocalist for pop groups, and writing my own music.

I am confident that I can help you learn any stye and am very patient and affable. I look forward to working with you!

People would come to my shows and often by impressed by my playing. After the show I would be asked to give lessons.

I have fourteen years of playing guitar both privatly and professionally and have taught alot of my friends and family members.

When i begin working with a student I like to meet them and hear them play a little to get a sense for what kind of musician they would like to become.

I want the atmosphere to be non-judgement, whether your very seasoned or just begining i want you to feel valued.

After I hear you play something we will begin with something you can feel good about quickly, a simple song, or an etude type excersize to increase your general music skills.

At this point we will move on to a daily practice regiment, which will be written down. I guarantee that if you follow the regiment you will see fast improvement. The regiment will involve:

1. Technical Etudes(picking technique/fingerstyle, chords and chord structures, and potentially reading tabs or notated music)

2. Songs you already know(checking lyrical knowledge, vocal warm ups utilizing your instrument, overall musicality)

3. Songs you want to learn(finding accurate recordings, learning basic song structure/strumming patterns riffs etc, overall musicality)

Mostly peers and high-school age students.

Make sure you find a teacher that suits your learning style. Some teachers are very critical, and some students respond very well to this. Other students have self-esteem issues and are unsure of themselves, they require a very compassionate, patient teacher. I am confident that I could provide either experience.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1. What is the reason your learning guitar? (it could be as simple as trying to get a date, and as serious as wanting to make music your lifes work)

2. Do you have an instrument(you'll need one), how much are you willing to spend? What kind of music do you actually listen too?

3. How much time are you willing to put in? You wont see improvement if you cant dedicate(at the bare minimum) thirty minutes a day. Professionals can spend six to eight hours a day practicing. And practicing, ladies and gentlemen, is the only way to improve.
