About Jerry
As the college admissions criteria becomes more competitive, an applicant’s story and presentation of their experiences/awards/credentials becomes the most important differentiating factor. Universities are drawn to candidates with authentic stories, so my goal is to help clients connect all their life experiences and academic credentials together into an application package.
Working with several upperclassmen, I have carefully constructed my own application to reflect a personal narrative, and naturally I have helped numerous younger peers also convert their test scores, club positions and awards into effective, compelling stories. Students who I have advised and edited essays for have been admitted to Duke, Cornell and University of North Carolina (Full Ride Scholarship).
Throughout the advising process, I look to share my experience, resources, academic and social network at these prestigious universities to clients. I love the mentorship process and developing relationships with students to help them achieve their goals. I have previously tutored STEM subjects and founded an afterschool program, STEMClub, and discovered my love for teaching seeing middle and high school students develop a passion for STEM.
I co-founded STEMClub after organizing an acid base activity for after school students. I found the process of helping a student develop academically and and gain confidence in their skills highly rewarding, and I loved serving as a positive influence in their growth. I also am interested in the neuroscience of learning, and I love applying these concepts to improve my teaching ability.
Previously, I co-founded STEMClub in high school, which allowed me to work with over 200 local students to develop a passion for science, engineering and math through an after school program. I currently serve as a section director for the West Philadelphia Tutoring Project, serving at-risk middle and high school students in Philadelphia to excel in school. I have also taught private tennis lessons and skiing for more than 2 years.

Drawing upon my experiences, I incorporate an approach that relies on isolating areas for improvement, an individualized explanation/example, and enabling understanding/confidence through repeated practice. I hope to combine of my extensive test-prep, academic and extracurricular tutoring experiences to help my students reach their academic goals through:
1. Thorough Conceptual Understanding
2. Engaging and Interesting Sessions Tailored to Student's Needs
3. Relationship Building and Mentorship for Future Goals
I have worked with at-risk elementary to high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds. I have also developed college admission strategies and edited essays for younger peers who were admitted to University of North Carolina, Duke and Cornell.
Find a tutor who understands your learning style and is empathetic. However, the tutor should also be accountable for your progress and make their best effort for the student to truly understand the underlying concepts.
I had recently decided to take a gap year in light of COVID-19, and I moved to Nevada for the remainder of the spring semester. I encountered many challenges (financing the trip and employment logistics) while also having the rare chance to ski with friends several days of the week and produce video content.
