About John
I want to get you into the school of your dreams! I have experience with many types of students all dealing with the ACT. I tutored my senior year of high school in 2016 in Oklahoma and the summer after my freshman year in college in 2017. Many of my students raised their composite scores by 6 points! I am a very successful undergraduate student and I am on track to go to graduate school here in California.
I enjoy hearing about the places my students go and seeing how happy they are once they realize anything is possible!
I started when I began teaching friends after I got my near perfect score on the ACT. Most of the work and preparation I did alone, but I found many methods that worked for other people.
I tutored students extensively in the ACT in the past
I received a near perfect score
I was a resident advisor so I get along well with all kinds of personalities and types of people
I was the valedictorian of my high school
I am getting two undergraduate degrees in four years

I will typically evaluate their past scores (if they have any)
Then, I start on a diagnostic practice test
Then, I go through missed questions and discover which type of questions in each ACT section the student is missing consistently. This could be subject matter or a way of wording because the ACT is very misleading
Then, I will teach the student how to overcome this type of error
Finally, the process restarts until we have adequately prepared.
All types of students- from any high school age and some that took the test after high school.
I would say make sure that the teacher is young or have taken the test recently. Hiring an older person may seem better because in theory they are more "responsible" but younger people have more recent experience actually sitting for the examination and may have more insight into the modern phrasing of questions.
My recent roadtrip and research experience in California! It has been so nice to finally make it to this more enlightened part of the USA!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What kinds of questions stump you?
Which section do you struggle with most?
Do you often run out of time? By how much?

John raised my act score at least 4 points and his teaching style is so simple and understandable. A really great guy and friend. :)
he’s a great laugh, but is also really smart which is a great combination for learning. he makes you want to learn & does it with ease. he doesn’t make you feel dumb when you get the answer wrong and he helps you truly comprehend why the answer is the way it is — if that makes sense haha
John is patient and understanding. He was able to adapt and change depending on my areas of struggle and significant improvement was seen in my work after our time together. He is intelligent and caring and a fantastic tutor.
Pretty cool guy. Made tutoring a pleasant experience. We picked out my weaknesses first (reading at 25 whereas all the other subjects were in the 30s) and he recommended books for me to read. I didn’t really like reading before, but once I found novels I enjoyed, I was more driven to analyze passages and sparknotes everything. Overall enriching. It took time but I eventually raised reading to high 30s. We went through one question at a time and discussed the thinking process. Turned out I am bad at thinking but he gave the perspectives I needed and helped me develop better strategies
