About Abigail
During high school, I tutored a lot of kids who were struggling in thier classes. I always finished my homework at home, so when it was time for me to go to study hall, I rarely had any work to do. I turned my study hall time into a sort of makeshift tutoring session for anyone who was having trouble in their classes.
I also am a STEM major at the Santa Rosa Junior College. Specifically, my major is biology, but I also excel in chemistry.

Finding out what teaching method works best for each new student is an essential skill in tutoring. The first thing I do when working with a new student is communicate with them, and find out how they will best learn the material. Some students learn better by following along while I explain concepts, others learn better if I assist them while they figure it out on their own. This sort of personalized learning is not something you can get in a normal classroom environment.
I have worked with all kinds of students. I have worked with students who are really struggling and have no idea what is going on in their classes, and I have worked with students who are just a little behind and need a push in the right direction.
It is always a good idea to make sure you understand exactly what you are having trouble with. If you are struggling with chemistry but you hire a tutor who specializes in biology, they will likely be able to help you, but maybe not as much as someone who specializes in chemistry, or excels at both.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
- What sort of instruction do I need in order to understand this information? I mentioned this in my first answered question, but the most important thing when working with a new student or new tutor, is to understand what teaching methods work best for the student. If you can communicate that to your tutor, they will be able to start the session off right.
- What specific areas and concepts am I struggling in? During a session, you will get more bang for your buck if you know specific concepts and topics you want your tutor to help with.
