About Keith

I have been creating works of art since childhood. I have an associates degree from a community college in advertising and worked successfully in the industry for more than 25 years. I have worked in several major cities including New York City, Los Angeles and Miami.

During my time working in Advertising and graphic design, I participated in drawing workshops and open drawing groups at Parsons School of Design, The School of Visual Arts and several other open drawing groups in the Charlotte area, where I now reside.

I work primarily in the abstract and representational style with figures and landscapes, but am also skilled with the basics of line, shading, color theory and perspective.

Have only taught individuals on an informal basis with minimal instruction as requested when facilitating drawing groups at the Charlotte Art League and as well as when in attendance in other groups. I have taught T’ai Chi Chuan on a volunteer basis at local libraries and just to friends over the years.

About the lesson

Assessing their skill level and goals. Proceeding from there, based on the student, from simple shapes and shading with regards to lighting, whether natural or artificial and progressing at their development pace and applying the skills and techniques learned to more complex shapes including still life, figures and landscapes. I encourage quick and spontaneous strokes and trusting the sexy and subconscious more than the tools used such as a measuring stick. I like to start with the primary colors, with projects such as a color wheel, swing the complimentary colors to create grays. Black and white are introduced to create shades and tints that cannot be achieved with only the three primaries.

Primarily Adults or Teens over the age of 18, since nude models are often part of the figure drawing lessons.

To choose a teacher based on skills in the area in which they have the most interest and also based on the artwork the teacher has done. Most importantly, however is the ability the teacher has to connect with the student in a way that brings out the student’s inner spirit of creativity, rather than following a strict set of rules. Learn the basics and the do something different.

Not the blackout itself, but the coming together as a community in NYC of the residents, tourists as well as the Broadway performers to stand in unity and support one another with the skills they possessed personally thorough out the 12 hours without lights.
