About Howard

I specialize in youth ages from 7-18. I cover the fundamentals that help your child play a year above their grade level. My clients improve the following skill sets below.

Proper shooting form, Ball Handling, Rebounding, Passing, Layups with both right & left hand. Close outs, Block outs and Defense.

My goal is to bring a tear to the parents eyes after seeing their childs athletic transformation. My passion is to build winners & competitors.

Classes are 5 players max per session to gureentee faster success/results.

The greatest rewards have been the emotional rewards of helping to build young people while sharing my passion for basketball. I have trained hundreds of kids from the ages of 7 though 18 year of age, even down to the nutty 5 & 6 year olds that just loves the game of basketball.

I have been coaching on & off for years, but once I became a father 10 years ago, I started coaching full-time again when my son turned 5 years of age. From that point I began training all the players on my sons’ team and my clientele grew from that point. Now that I have relocated to Las Vegas, I have to start over from scratch with all new clients. I currently work with all age groups up to the High School level. I am also a International Sports Science Association (ISSA) Certified Personal Trainer and soon to be a (ISSA) Certified Sports Nutritionist.

I am currently the head Freshmen and JV Basketball Coach at the top ranked Coronado High School in Henderson Las Vegas. I have firsthand experience playing basketball at Verbum Dei High School in Los Angeles, California back in the early 80's. From high school I played one year at Long Beach State University and then transferred to Ranch Santiago JC, where I played for two years and then transferred to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo University. All of these experiences has made me a more well-rounded coach/trainer and given me the knowledge of the sport and allowed me to better communicate with my players.

About the lesson

Initially I start by accessing the players fundamental skills to see what level he or she is already at. Next, I ask a few questions to the parents and the child to gage the childs love for the game. After these two steps, the teaching begins.Step 1. Introduce the skill. 2. Demonstrate and explain the skill. 3. Initial Practice 4. Explain when and why to Use the Skill 5. Repetition 6. Incorporate Skill into Live Play 7. Repeat steps 5 and 6. This is the step-by-step process that I use.

I usually work with students that have zero or little skills, but have trained students up to the age of 18 years of age with high skill levels.

My advice would be to hire someone that works on basic fundamentals and court awareness. Look for a coach who gives both positive & negative feedback equally or as needed.
