About Jim

I hope all is well. My name is James Fabiano and I am a retired chemistry teacher living in York, Maine. I've taught chemistry at the secondary level and had programs at the University of New Hampshire. Since my retirement, I've tutored all levels of chemistry. I tutor from my home using Zoom or any other on-line system. At the secondary level I taught AP Chemistry. I was awarded Theodore William Richard's Award for excellence in teaching secondary school chemistry in 2007 by the American Chemistry Society of New England. I love teaching chemistry because it is the basis of all science.

This is all I ever wanted to do. I also write. I have two published books. One is still for sale on Amazon and the other was published in PRC. (People's Republic of China)

Hopefully we enjoy the concepts of substances for that is all chemistry is. The science of stuff. Chemistry is the central science of all the sciences. Depending on the student I use materials (objective) to allow my students to have this science make sense. I use qualitative materials to display how exciting this science is. I have taught students from 5th grade to college freshman. I've worked with James Watson on DNAi using incredible graphics to understand the science of DNA and to introduce the concepts of nanotechnology and genetics. Pleae feel free to check out the website: DNAi and check out the acknowledges showing I was part of this process.

I've worked with middle school students in both the advanced level and special education models. I've worked with high school students from physical science, biology, chemistry, and physics. I worked at the university in marine science and had multiple programs at the University of New Hampshire.

Make sure you match up well. Many of my student enjoy my approach to this remarkable science. Some do not enjoy the constant dialogue of teacher and student. Be comfortable and simply enjoy the experience.

Since the pandemic I've worked with my grandchildren who are in Kindergarten and 5th grade. I believe any Kindergarten teacher should be given advanced awards. I'm also an astronomy buff who was excited about clearly viewing Mars, Saturn, and the meteorite showers we are experiencing today. I have a rather large reflector telescope.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
This depends on the individual. The concept of chemistry should be central in all conversations. But, never eliminate the concept of 'why' and "if'. In other words there is nothing wrong with dreaming. Just read about Albert Einstein. He dreamt all the time.

This would include assigning work to be done at home. I use multiple resources. For the younger student I do rely a bit on videos but for the older students I use objective assignment.
