About Janet

Hello! I am Janet Butterfield! My years as a performer, band director, and private lesson teacher have allowed me to work with a wide range of learning styles and interest levels and I'd be happy to share my passion for music with you or your child. Please take a peak at my resume to learn more about my background and feel free to contact my references. Lessons are a dollar a minute with a 30 minute minimum. Making music is fun, social, develops discipline and serves as a creative outlet! I promise to help your child discover and grow his/her talent and nurture a lifelong love of music!

I began teaching privately when in high school and have never stopped. 34 years as a band director of grades 4-8 in Deerfield, IL and 40 years of experience teaching clarinet from beginner to adult allow me to share the knowledge of my teachers with my experience as a teacher to meet the needs of a wide variety of student learners.

About the lesson

During the first lesson(s), I assess the interest and skill level of the student, learn of his/her goals, and from there, design lesson plans to meet those goals. Lessons incude work on tone development, scales, decoding rhythms, etudes, solo reperatoire, duets, sight reading and an introduction to jazz if desired.

Students of all ages and learning styles.

Home practice is needed for self improvement.
