I took lessons with Ross every week for 6 years. He is a wonderful teacher, knowledgeable, talented, patient, caring and funny. I feel so lucky to have had his training during my ballroom dancing journey.

Ross combines the talents of an experienced dance teacher and a deep understanding of body mechanics. During my time as his student he has facilitated my understanding of how the body operates. He doesn’t just show one dance steps but imparts the tools to understand movement functionally and then apply them to how one’s body operates to music. Under Ross’ tutelage I have experienced physical change in my movement as part of my daily activities and then was guided to apply that new understanding so that I felt a difference in my dancing. I have learned that improving my dancing skills is so much more than simply learning more choreography. As a student of dance himself, Ross knows the emotional side of what it takes takes to make the journey to become a “better mover” and shares that as part of his coaching.

During a lesson he focuses on an important point and relates it to an explanation that is relevant to his pupil’s personal experience. He shares a concept using an anecdote in everyday life and then is able to pair it with basic instruction in structural anatomy using a sketched diagram, video of muscle movement or props available in the setting until I finally “get” what the aim of the movement is. For my husband with medical training who has a strong history of athleticism he is able to talk about movement on a level and at a par that is geared to his training. In this way Ross disambiguates common dance expressions and constructs a foundation for building and improving balance, coordination and technique. For anyone looking to improve the quality of their movement I give my unreserved recommendation that you need look no further to obtain your goals.

I had a fun time and despite getting a good workout, it didn’t feel like exercise.

He’s very knowledgeable, takes time to understand your needs, and maintains a pace that I can comfortably follow. I don’t feel rushed or like I’m falling behind which keeps me motivated and engaged. At the end of each session I feel a sense of accomplishment and confidence thanks to his teaching approach. Would highly recommend Ros for beginners and experts alike!
