About Rashmi

Rashmi Prasad Mathkur is the director at Nrithyalaya Dance Academy LLC is a premier dance academy that imparts training in the classical Indian dance of Bharatanatyam. It’s mission is to provide Bharatanatyam training, workshops, arangetrams, productions for aspiring students. The training includes cultural, mythological, historical aspects of Indian classical dance and is based out of Phoenix, Arizona.

Classes are offered to kids(4 and above) and adults(Age no bar).

I love teaching dance. Inspiring kids abs adults to learn the dance not only as a means of artistic self expression but also as a tool to self-development. Over the years, I have seen my students grow into amazing dancers and kind human beings. It's a cliche for a reason, but teaching is a rewarding career one can have.

I came to US in 2013. I contemplated on taking up law again but an opputinuty time perform in one of the cultural association in Phoenix came up. I participated and started working on my choreography. It's started with three students but now the acadamey has over 60 plus students.

I have diploma in bharatanatyam from India. I have been learning this dance form since I have 5 years old and have been teaching the same for almost a decade. I used to be a solicitor and I gave up to pursue dancing and teaching.

About the lesson

I have a created sylabbus and students in my classes learn accordingly. All the required material is provided to the students for their at home practise. Students are also required to send their practise videos every month for the teachers to review.

I have worked with kids who are 4 years old to adults who are 40 plus. There is no age bar to learn this dance form. I have also taught kids who are diagnosed with adhd but the classes for them are one on one.

Look for a teacher who can inspire you to learn and get better at it. Practise makes progress. Even when you don't get the step or a choreo you will put the effort as you are inspired to learn.
