About Dave

I have been teaching drawing and painting to students of all ages and skill levels (including absolute beginners!) for over 35 years. I provide step by step training based on established art school principles and techniques. My method includes eye, hand and brain training exercises that enable you to draw and paint what you see in front of you, in real life, rather than using formulas or copying someone else's drawing or a photograph.

I will critique your progress and suggest next steps after monitoring your work via Zoom calls and/or email.

With my lessons students unleash talent they didn't know they had, and have fun in the process! My methods quickly provide a solid foundation for developing your skills as an artist, whatever your current level of expertise.

I got so much out of my own education I wanted others to have the same, and, people asked me to teach!

I've gone to 3 art schools.

I've taught individuals, small groups and large classes for 35 years.

I've taught public school teachers how to teach art.

I've written about 10 different drawing and painting courses.

I've had my own work in approximately 30 galleries.

I've sold about 800 of my own paintings and drawings.

About the lesson

1. First I find out what instruction you've already had, with a free introductory call.

2. Then I find out what you'd really like to be able to do, ulimately, whether it be drawing, painting - and in what style?

3. Then I design lessons to move you towards that goal, starting as basic as you need, with weekly homework and coaching you as you go!

All ages over 10, all kinds (including "youth at risk" in the Mississippi Delta and senior citizens.

Make sure they teach you to see and then represent edges, light and dark, proportions and color in real life subjects (not photographs or other's artwork).
