About Myriah

Hello!

My name is Myriah, and I am an artist with a passion for helping people to achieve their artistic goals and move past their creative blocks. I have an extensive background in the arts including a BA in Studio Art from UNCA and a BFA in Studio Art from WCU. After college, I took many art workshops and classes to further expand my skills including three years of private classical art training. I continue to learn and expand my skills to this day. I have a growth mindset and constantly strive to become better at what I do.

I have been a tutor and teacher at a community college for seven years as well as being a teacher of individualized private art classes.

I offer private art lessons in drawing and painting catered to the student's needs and interests. I work with students of any age, at any level from beginning to advanced. I start with a solid foundation and give students attainable challenges to help them to increase their abilities. I am encouraging, patient, and fun.

I give homework for the student to work on outside of the session and will offer constructive feedback on their prior week's work during our session. I also teach methods and techniques, offer demos, and share resources. I share knowledgeable information on materials, supplies, and will answer questions students have.

Optionally, I also offer mentoring and coaching for students who have creative blocks. I have completed Eric Maisel's creativity coaching course. I help students to set attainable goals and to reach them. I also serve as an accountability buddy for students who have trouble completing work on their own without outside deadlines.

About the lesson

I ask the student to fill out a quick questionaire to find out what they are looking for, and I also get them to share a little of their work if they have any available. This helps me to gain an idea of where they are and what they are working toward. Then I will discuss this with them and come up with a plan for our tutoring sessions. I typically start with some basic foundational skills and go from there. I can customize lessons according to the student's needs. I work with students from beginning to advanced levels.
