About Nick

Nick Haring has played drums for 21 years and taught in nearly every format for 9 years. He holds a B.M. from The University of Memphis, studying both classical and contemporary styles. Outside of playing, as a music professional, Nick was the Store Manager for the largest music instrument/pro audio retail store in the commonwealth of Virginia, has worked as a Production Manager/Audio Engineer for a number of artists and productions in venues both big and small, and has produced and recorded a wide variety of projects released both independently and under record labels. In addition to playing and teaching percussion, Nick is also the Owner and Managing Member of Red Label Productions, a live sound and lighting consultation company based in Northern Virginia. Nick currently teaches both the Yorktown High School drum line and Arlington Indoor Percussion Ensemble.

Nick Haring offers weekly one-on-one drum lessons via Zoom, for young adults and older, focusing on the skills and techniques needed to be a working percussionist in today’s music industry.

I began teaching while I was in High School, I taught a number of younger students from the neighboring middle schools. I began teaching drum lines, also while in high school, with the Fairfax County Police Department's Pipe and Drum Band.

I graduated from The University of Memphis with a B.M. in 2013. I have been playing for over 20 years, and teaching in virtually every format (from private lessons to drum lines and percussion ensembles) for the last decade.

About the lesson

Generally, I like to do a free, 15-min trial lesson to make sure I'll be a good fit for the student. From there, we spend a few weeks working on basic snare drum technique and reading. Following that, then we'll begin exploring drumset, other instruments, or specific interests!

I have worked with students of all ages and skill levels.

Drums and percussion is such a wide field, that you want to look for an instructor who is able to specialize in what you want to do i.e. audition prep, marching, jazz, Funk, blues, afro-cuban, etc.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I always like to ask my students what their Drumming goals are--do they want to get better at a particular style or genre, in there an ensemble or program they would like to audition for, etc.
