I never planned to become a drum instructor but it all started when I was approached at a gig a long time ago when someone complimented my playing and asked if I would teach their child. The rest came naturally.

I received training and lessons from the professionals like Charlie Perry, Nate Morton (NBC's The Voice), and Sam Ruttenberg, inventor of the HingeStix.

As a 60+ year old drummer, I still take lessons twice a week from the pros. It keeps me fresh, learning new concepts that make me a better teacher.

About the lesson

Every student receives personalized drum lessons designed to motivate, excite, challenge, and move the student at a steady and comfortable pace. No lesson is complete until the student has a full understanding of the concepts discussed and exercises assigned.

Whether you're a beginner, intermediate, advanced student, or an adult coming back to the drums after a long break, I will tailor a lesson plan to meet your goals and aspirations as a drummer. Maybe you want to learn rock beats to jam with your friends, or, you want to ultimately play professionally as a drummer, I can you get you there.

I teach out of my drum studio in Mohegan Lake, NY or in the comfort of your own home. Distance learning is also available via Skype, Facebook Messenger, Facetime, and Zoom.

Weekday evenings from 6-9 still available as well as weekend mornings and early afternoons.

Your first lesson is always free. Lesson packages are also available.

Most of my students are beginners & intermediates. I have found, and I think most other instructors will agree, the best age to start learning is around 9 or 10 years old, depending on the student's aptitude for learning and the desire to play music.

The best students are those who have a fondness for music are who committed to learning an instrument.

Learning an instrument can be beneficial to the child's overall wellbeing and development.

Children and young adults who are learning disabled also benefit from playing a instrument and I have structured plans developed especialliy for these students.

1. It's important to work with an experienced instructor. You will want to work with an instructor who has expertise teaching your age group and at your skill level. If you're an advanced player, it goes without saying that you should not work with an instructor who only teaches beginners. The reciprocal is also true. If you're a beginner, don't work with an instructor who only teaches advanced players.
2. Consider the instructor's style. Is the instructor strict and structured or flexible and accommodating? What qualities do you look for?
3. What are the instructor's cancellation policy? 48, 24, same day cancellations.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
It's important think the following:

1. How committed am I to learning the drums? The best students are those exhibit a strong desire and committment to learning the drums.
2. Do I have the time for lessons? Think about how frequently you want lessons. Weekly lessons are best, however you may want a lesson every other week or once a month.
3. Do I have the time to practice what I've learned during my lessons on a daily basis? This goes hand in hand with the notion of committment. Practice makes perfect! Putting in the time to practice everyday will deliver the best results and advance through in your lessons.
4. What are my goals? Set achievable goals. Have a clear vision of what you want achieve and share those goals with your instructor.
5. Set your expectations. Not unlike setting your goals, managing your expectations will reduce any frustrations you may experience.

And remember...the instructor expects students to practice between lessons, not at a lesson. Practice is the most important part of learning the drums so make sure you understand the importance of practice before you start learning the drums.

Details

Remote and in-person drum lessons are $60 per lesson and run anywhere between 30 and 60 minutes.

There is an additional $15 per lesson charge if in-person lessons are provided in your location AND the distance is greater than 10 miles.
