About Jasmin

Hi everyone! My name is Jasmin Acosta and I am currently pursuing an English degree since I love writing. I want to be there to help you improve your writing skills and edit your essays. I have been turtoring, editing, and writing different people's essays for the last year! I truly enjoy writing and thinking through how to use different rethorical devices in order to create the best argument, statment, or defense. There are many different types of of essays and ways to appraoch them. I want to be there for you to make writing a little more enjoyable! :)

I got into teaching during my four years in high school which began with my math class freshman year. There was a group of students that were completely lost in my math class and were failing every test which I then offered some assisstance. So after each math lecture I would take those students to the back of the class and I would tutor them in math, and it was evident that my turtoring was helping as those student began to get a C or higher on their tests. Where they even laughed saying that the way I explained it was so much easier and that I should be teaching the class, so I continued on teaching math the rest of my three years in high school. Recently, for the past year I began turtoring, editing, and writing other people's papers since I have a love for writing. It can be any topic and I will run with it, typing away in my own world. This is where my love for English has grown and it has been through helping others.

Currently, I am pursuing my Bachelor's degree in English and I have been turtoring, writing, and editing people's papers for the past year.

About the lesson

My typical process with a new student is that we will introduce ourselves and share a fun fact about ourselves. The first couple of minutes is to break the ice and to get to know each other. Then I will ask what the student needs help with and we will go over the assiment and the issue. After I will explain how to approach the assingment and build those critical thinking skills to translate onto paper. I have the patience to help if something sounds confusing so there is no need to worry about that! It just takes some practice to get better. :)

I have worked with high school students, middle school, and college students.

Advice that I would provide when hiring a teacher to teach english is to trust your gut and find someone who is truly passionate about their subject.

An event that I am very fond of is that I was helping a friend of mine who's in college and struggles with writing. So I offered to help edit and write their rough draft essay, and I spent a couple of hours enjoying myself trying to perfect the essay the best to my abilties. Where my friend came back to me so excited that they got an A on their essay and their professor was impressed by their improvement. Seeing my friend filled with joy through seeing their abilties in writing improve and the professor noticing truly put a smile on my face and that is what teaching is all about.
