About Haley

Hello, my name is Haley, and I am interested in obtaining a tutoring or instructional job for the summer. I am currently a junior at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign majoring in English and pursuing a minor in Communications. I believe that the skills and experiences I have gained in high school and my first two years in college make me an ideal tutor for students in almost any subject — including Chemistry, English (essay writing, journalistic writing, and classic literature analysis), and Math (Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus)

As someone who is enthusiastic about and has experience with supporting students anywhere from 4th grade to 12th grade outside of the classroom, I believe I would make a great instructor for any student. I am proficient in a wide variety of subjects. I have completed math through Calculus III (Multivariable Calculus), I have taken multiple Chemistry and Physics courses, and I am a practiced editor with extensive knowledge on Associated Press style. My passion for helping students to succeed in their challenging academic settings puts me in a position to apply for your tutoring job.

I excel in tasks like evaluating a student’s specific learning capabilities and needs; this includes assisting him or her work through challenging material or assignments, as well as suggesting new learning techniques that offer a different way for a student to view similar problems to better grasp concepts. By taking classes across a range of subjects — and by obtaining hands-on tutoring experience on my college campus through DREAAM House — I have honed my problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.

About the lesson

For me, it is most important to establish a connection and a relationship with the students I am tutoring. I want to know what topics they need to learn, how they were taught it in the classroom, and most importantly how they learn. I make use of hands-on, engaging teaching methods to facilitate an enjoyable, interactive, and personalized approach to learning by stimulating students’ appreciation for and enjoyment of the subjects. By building and sustaining strong relationships and engaging in meaningful interactions with students, I am able to adapt my tutoring style to each student’s specific needs.
