About Noelle

I'm Noelle and I'm excited to help you with English! I will be officially certified in Teaching English as a Second Language starting in September. I have lots of experience writing academic essays -- I have two degrees and wrote theses for both! I can teach you in either or both areas.

My approach is personal, interactive, relaxed, and practical. I want you to learn in a way that is interesting and useful to you and your needs. First, we'll have a chat about what you need to study English for, and I will ascertain your level. I will also find out what your "pain points" are. "Pain points" are the areas you get frustrated in the most. We will work to ease those pain points, and replace them with a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment.

If you are looking for an ESL teacher, my goal will be to help you communicate effectively and with confidence. We will use topics that interest you, and we will focus on the areas you want to use English in first. No boring, generic scripts here! It will all be tailored to you! If you are dissatisfied with part of our lessons, all you need to do is tell me what you don't like and what you'd like to do differently. The whole time I am your tutor, I will be tailoring lessons to YOU, not making you conform to me. That is how it should be!

If you're thinking about trying my lessons out, take a moment and reflect. Are you hoping for help with speaking, writing, understanding, or reading? All of them together? What are your "pain points" -- pronunciation, casual conversation, idioms, professional English, academic writing...something else? We will work together to make sure you are getting what you need out of your lessons.

If you are hoping for help in writing and are a native speaker, it would still be useful to think about what your pain points -- your places of greatest frustration -- are. This will help us focus on what you most need to improve.

My background: I have an undergraduate and Master's degree and have written two theses for a total of around 130 pages (not including the shorter essays I wrote during that time!) I received good and very good marks in all of them and graduated in the top percentile of my class both times. I know the ins and outs of academic papers, from research, to formatting, to the writing itself. I'm also awesome in grammar, spelling, and rhetoric (expressing yourself effectively).

I have served in two lead roles in childrens' mentorship programs, helping to direct them and being involved with lesson and curriculum planning. I've also been a docent (a teaching tour guide) in an archaeological center, and a private tutor/curriculum overseer at the high school level.
