About Vee

I am a fun, dedicated flute instructor who will teach beginner-intermediate flute students.

I will travel to you, and love to work with kids who are beginners and would like to try out the flute, or those who would like to up their understanding of the instrument.

I love music, and have been playing flute for 8 years, and am a high school junior, and plan to continue playing in the future.

I may even study music in college!

I perform in concert band as well as marching band for my high school.

I enjoy having a positive impact on students, and watching them grow into more practiced musicians, as well as watching them gain a deeper appreciation for music.

I have played the flute for 8 years from 4th grade to currently (I am going into 12th grade).

I also have worked as a babysitter and also as a CIT at a summer camp at the YMCA.

I am also starting band leadership training, and am one of the section leaders for the flute section for marching band at my high school this year.

About the lesson

I plan to teach students in a fun, supportive environment where we celebrate successes, and treat "failures" as learning experiences.

I will start with teaching absolute begginer students the parts of the flute, how to put the instrument together, and how to read music.

I will continue with teaching them how to make their first sound on the flute and then to play their first note (B flat), and eventually learn a simple piece such as "Hot Cross Buns" and scales such the B Flat (Bb) scale, and then working their way up to more complicated pieces and scales.

If the student and/or parents/guardians would like, I would be more than happy to sit down and answer questions or talk more in depth about lesson plans and what the student hopes to accomplish during their lessons.

I would prefer if the student has their own instrument, but if they don't I would be able to let them borrow one during lesson time. However they may not keep it outside of that time.

I will bring warmups and other music to the lesson if requested. However, I will suggest different music books (such as the Essential Elements books) for the student or parents of the student to buy if they wish.

I will send a list of materials I reccomend prior to the lesson, but common materials will include: a flute (closed hole if the student is a beginner), the Essential Elements for Flute (Book 1), a pencil (mechanical or sharpened), a cleaning cloth (which can be a large piece of cotton cut out from an old t-shirt), and a list of 3 music pieces that you would wish to be able to play by 16 to 18 weeks into the lessons (if the student is taking weekly lessons).

(The reason I say 16 to 18 weeks is because a large amount flute pieces derived from "popular music" requires students to play high notes that most beginners don't learn until they're comfortable with notes at a lower octave).

I would advise students to not only look for a instructor who is a "qualified" instructor (although that is important, so please look for that as well), but also a teacher who you like and is patient and kind to their students, the students parents and/or guardians, etcetera. And also an instructor who tailors their lessons to your learning style.

They should also feel comfortable asking their instructor questions pertaining to their lessons, their music, and anything else that can pertaining to music or that is relevant at the time.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
They should ask themselves whether this is an instrument that they can see themselves playing in the future (because buying an instrument is an investment), and also if they can see themselves genuinley enjoying the instrument.

They should also ask whether they're willing to make the commitment to learn the instrument and put the time in to practice it outside of lessons, and also what they hope to achieve during these lessons.

I would like to be paid $15-17 per lesson. Negotiations may be made, and if I am the one providing books and music, I may ask to be paid either a higher rate, or half of the cost of the book rounded down to the nearest dollar.
