About Bradley

I have been speaking French since 2007 and now have a C2 native level of fluency and a native speaker’s accent. I lived in Paris where I studied French Linguistics and Anthropology at La Sorbonne and my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Illinois in Chicago focused on bilingual education and French Literature. My work as a program coordinator with a French international education company put my in daily contact with French natives with whom I used a professional level of French. My work also required that I maneuver a multitude of nuanced cultural information to successfully communicate with my clients. I am a registered proctor for the European Consortium for the Certificate of Attainment in Modern Languages (ECL) French Language proficiency exam through the University of Pécs' Foreign Language Center. This certification allows to accurately and officially assess your speaking, listening, reading, and writing abilities in the French language. I also received a Master’s Degree in French language and International Business Marketing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I focused on using the French language in a professional and global setting. This, paired with my previous experience, puts me in the qualified position to tutor on all aspects of French language and culture, from professional business interactions to casual encounters with friends. Whether an advanced beginner, intermediate, or advanced student, I can help you begin and continue your studies. We will focus on verbal and written fluency through conversation, reading of literature and news, movies, music, and pronunciation training. Depending on your proficiency level, you can choose to focus on just one of these areas or you can opt for a more comprehensive approach. While I am not a native speaker, I am fluent in the language. My studies have also given me a thorough and comprehensive mastery of the grammar; being a native English speaker, I am also aware of the faults many English-speaking learners of French make and can therefore preemptively address these common mistakes. I take pride in teaching students personalized French language skills that they would not have come in contact to from normal school classes.

After 8 years of studying French, I went abroad for the first time. I was shocked by how little French I understood and how unprepared my school experience made me. I decided to start tutoring in order to compensate for the lack of authentic language taught in 'school French'. It's my goal to expose students to an authentic, native-like level of French so they have all the tools necessary to work, study, and travel in French-speaking countries.

About the lesson

Every new student receives a free 30-minute trial lesson. The trial lesson is a no-commitment opportunity for students to make certain that their learning goals are met by my tutoring methods and experience. The trial lesson also offers me the chance to better assess a student's level of French and plan for future lessons more accurately.

Although many potential students think that a native French speaker would make the best tutor for them, it's important to recognize that native speakers of a language can often lack an understanding of how and why their language works the way it does. A non-native speaker of French (but one who has attained a native-level of fluency) will be intimately familiar with why a language functions the way it does. Even as native speakers of English, our answer to many questions on the language is "That's just the way it is!". You deserve thorough explanations to your questions.
