About Kaitlin

I possess an American Speech-Language and Hearing Association certificate of clinical competency in the field of speech-language pathology as well as a masters degree in both speech-language pathology and business administration. I am in my 3rd year in the field of speech and language. I have worked with ages 3 years old to 94 years old on various speech, language, cognitive-linguistic, and swallowing skills. I have worked with culturally and religiously diverse clients as well as bilingual speakers and English language learners. I have a strong passion to help individuals reach their potential. While it is important to understand that I do not treat or diagnose disabilities through this format, I do provide assistance to individuals that wish to receive extra lessons/tutoring in certain areas or wish to excel in a specific area related to speech and langauge. This can include accent reduction, phonics, writing, and public speaking. If you have any questions, please reach out!

It is an integral part of my chosen career path. However, I decided to offer services to individuals that do not qualify for medically related services because I noticed first hand that while an individual may not be severely impacted and fall within the typical range, they may also want to be slightly more skilled or even proficient in an area.

I have a bachelors in psychology, a masters in speech-language pathology, and a masters in business administration. I completed two years of clinical externships and have worked with ages 3-94 in the areas of speech, language, and cognitive-linguistic skills.

About the lesson

The first step to success with a student is to fully grasp their goals, specifically what they wish to accomplish or what skills they wish to acquire. It is then important to discuss their current skill level, their self-evaluation of skills, and determine their preferred learning style. While this might be discussed via text, seeing or hearing samples is best. Once the baselines and goals have been established, I like to provide a timeline for expected progress and achievement so students can have a realistic idea of the process.

Outside of the medical field, I have worked with individuals who wish to reduce accent from their primary language when speaking in English. I have also tutored students in phonics, reading, and writing.

Look for someone who demonstrates empathy for individuals, as this is a driving factor in how much care they will take in planning and providing services.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Reflect on your current skill level, what your goals are, and what you think prevents you from achieving those goals. Additionally, ask yourself how much time (minutes/week and weeks) you are willing commit to learning this new skill. It's always good to have an idea before reaching out.
