About Leanna

I used to spend hours on Monday-Friday helping a 12 year old boy with his math, he was failing. After about 4 weeks of tutoring, his grade went from an E to a C+, and even after more time I helped him earn a final grade of an A-. I am passionate about helping young kids achieve their goals, especially kids who may need that extra lesson or extra push to help them succeed. I tutored the boy at his home because he does live in my area but I am more than willing to do tutoring over the phone, or I can travel.

When I realized that I had a talent in math, I noticed my friends and people I knew were struggling. I used all the techniques possible to help people around me understand the subject, and all my friends ended up passing the class. The same goes for my inspiration, which is the 12 year old boy who had a very happy mother when he finished the 6th grade.

While I don't have a degree or any college education, I did graduate high school in 2017, with math being my best subject. I passed math with either an A or an A- from 6th grade up until graduation. I love teaching others.

When working with a new student, I first will figure out the way they learn the best. Whether that be from hearing things over and over, to reading things over repeatedly or by doing hands on work. Once I figure this out, the process goes much smoother.

I have worked with students at the same level as me, I have worked with special needs students, as well as students who have fell behind and don't know why.

I would tell a student to look for a tutor who will he dedicated to helping you and teaching you to learn rather than handing out the answers, because handing out the answers will never help anybody learn. I would also tell a student looking for a tutor to find a very patient one, as some tutors can try to rush through lessons and hope for the best.

A recent event that I am fond of was actually at my current workplace at the dentist office where I am an assistant. I had a patient who happened to be a child, and instead of telling her that the drill, was a drill, I gave them names like Mr. Sprinkler, Mr. Vacuum, etc. This child was screaming out of fear when first arriving to the office. I helped the child calm down and made her first trip to the dentist super fun. The parents of this little girl went straight to my boss and gave me an excellent review saying that I am amazing with kids, more than they've ever seen before. Hearing this about me made me really realize that I can have a huge impact on helping children every chance I get.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Before asking a teacher about their needs, students should be able to trust the teacher and understand that the teacher will always give the best answer they can, whether it be school-related questions or personal life questions.

Since the goal is to quit my full time job as a dental assistant to help kids who may need the extra help, I would need to be making at least as much as I am there which is $15/hour. For $15/hour I can almost guarantee a child's progression and success.
