My passion is to share my love of music with as many people as possible.

I have been playing professionally and teaching for over 20 years. I have played all over the world and am very active in the Louisville music scene. I love seeing students grow on their instruments

I went to music school at musicians institute and that was a great beginning/ foundation. Since then though I’ve gotten lots of real world experience and that is a big part of what I bring to my lessons. I have also study with some of the best teachers in the world. I try to incorporate everything I’ve learned in every lesson.

I have dug deep into clawhammer banjo and the Appalachian tradition. I am also adept at fingerpicking blues guitar, in the style of many of the great masters such as Robert Johnson and Mississippi John Hurt. I can help you get to playing these styles of music.

About the lesson

I like to teach people to play songs. In the first few lessons we will cover how to hold the instrument, proper posture and playing technique. Once we get that going my experience has been we just need to learn songs. Every song has something different in it so you build your skills by learning lots of songs. AND it’s fun!!!

i have taught children as young at 6 and adults as old as 85. I’m open to any age. I have also taught at schools at every grade from elementary to college. I also enjoy group lessons if you have some friends or family that would like to learn together.

The advice I would give us make sure the teacher knows how to teach. I have had many students who have taken lessons for years and not learned to play. That’s a failure of the teacher. The teacher needs to break things down so the student can understand and grasp them.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The biggest thing students need to realize it’s that learning an instrument takes time, dedication and patience. You have to put the time into it by practicing every day. Even if you just practice a short time you need that repetition. If you put the time in I guarantee you will play.
