About Nic

My name is Nic and I teach music lessons! I have a bachelor's degree in Jazz Guitar Performance from the University of Wisconsin and have over 7 years of teaching experience with students of all ages and experience levels.

My students set their own goals for our lessons, and we puruse them together! I am willing and able to teach any style of music, including performance, music theory, and composition. Guitar is my primary instrument but I also play bass in several groups, and I teach bass, guitar, and piano to students of all ages and levels.

I have experience teaching and performing in most styles of music. I've toured and performed with metal, hip hop, bluegrass, punk, indie, jazz, funk, music theater, and math rock groups since 2010.

I teach lessons over zoom.

I started teaching when I was getting my degree, during my sophomore year. I've been teaching as my primary job since 2016.

I have a bachleor's degree in Guitar Performance from the University of Wisconsin.

About the lesson

My first lesson is usually a Q&A/goal setting session! Before I start with any student I make sure to get an understanding of their background knowledge and what they want to learn. After that, we set short term and long term goals, and after that we start chasing them!

I've worked with students of all ages and skill levels! I've worked with countless beginners, some for several years, and helped them become amazing songwriters and performers. I've worked with people who have played music for years, but just want music theory knowledge. I've worked with students dreaming of a career in music, and students who love playing music to relax.

Students need teachers they are comfortable around, but also teachers that won't shy away from difficult emotional topics such as frustration, disappointment, and anger. Music is an emotional journey, and your brain WILL be your biggest enemy in the practice room. A good teacher will help you navigate all aspects of being a musician, not just learning scales and songs.

About twenty minutes ago I made the BEST mac and cheese I've ever had! It put me in such a great mood.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Have an idea of what you want to do. What style of music do you want to play? What band or artist do you want to sound like? Do you want to write songs? Do you want to play fast? etc etc. If you know where you want to go, it's much easier and more fun to get there.
