About Michael
I started teaching my coworkers who wanted to be certified for various reasons, you work 2080 hours a year, 40 hours weekly, every raise times 2080 adds up. You can see their "You've Passed!" At the top of the page.
I went to 916 Vocational Techncial Institute in White Bear Lake, it's a 6 month course, it was self paced, I finished 2 weeks early. I got my Diploma in Central Service Technician. I got my CBSPD Certification afterwards, I later switched to HSPA Certification which is what we will be working on.
If you're able to go to a local community College that teaches sterile processing like i did, I got a classroom education and hands on that gave me a year's worth of education and experience, it gave me at least a step up, even more so with additional certifications. But, let's start here.
First, let's get you ready for your CRCST exam, I'd fill you in afterwards when you passed.

Having the CRCST Book and the Workbook is required for self study, I'm here to help you to learn the culture in sterile processing and the basics so that you can fit in during your 400 hours of hands on, qualify to sit for the test and pass.
Collect Written References at the end of your 400 hours and their contact information.
You can start the 400 hours whenever you're ready as well as finding a place that will allow you to volunteer 400 hours in the specified areas of sterile processing.
Membership is Encouraged, You'll get magazines to earn CEU (continuing education units) which is required to maintain your certification and resoures as well. It seems you can't get certified without the membership.
so far, mostly coworkers, some studied on their own I help as I'm able because the more people that are certified in our department benefits our department as well as the hospital grade and reputation. It helps us all get raises too.
I'm listed on deafmed on Facebook, I can do sign language for fellow deaf sterile processing professionals.
Every student has different learning styles, I need to be aware so I can see tbe angle. Some students have fabulous study habits but freeze up at the test, I'd suggest an different approach.
I got a copy of an employee ladder from another hospital I worked at before and shared it with my employer, personnel and the manager revised it to fit their own criteria. There was only 6 certified out of 35 staff, when I left, it was 135% certified, some with multiple certifications.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I took the option of taking medical terminology, it isn't required in sterile processing, but it helped me. Normally, students take 3 months, I took 6 months. My teacher was patient and accommodating, but, I still had to do the work.

You've done a great job Mikey - thanks. Have not heard one complaint. That's pretty good around here!
I am recommending Mike Larsen for the position; I have worked with him for 5 years at Exempla St Joseph Hospital. He has deep knowledge of how sterile processing works.
While working the evening shift here at Kootenai Health I had the opportunity to work with Mikey Larsen. He was a big help putting together instrument sets and was always a pleasure to work with. I appreciate all the help I received during his time here at Kootenai Health.
I want to recognize Mikey Larsen for always going above and beyond. He always give 110% when doing transport he's extremely reliable and it makes it much easier when following his shift because I know all pick ups are done and I never have to worry if everything got done.
Thank you for helping me pass my test!!
Thanks Mikey for all of your insight and sharing your experience and knowledge. It is a big help and I really appreciate it!
