About Bastiaan

Master historian with global work experience and a love for teaching; brings you history with a passion. My talent of connecting and bonding with students of all walks of life helps me to effectively teach history in a fun, creative and captivating manner. I possess a masters in History from one of Europe's best universities and have over 6 years teaching experience. I would honored to connect and share my experience.

I worked in Development aid, managing projects in Africa and Central America but I knew my skills were being under utilized. I wanted the personal connection with people on a daily basis. Working with youth of all ages challenges me and I feel this is where I really enjoy my work.

I have a Masters degree in the history of international relations and a Bacholer in European History. I taught High school American History, and Middle school Ancient world history at the Sierra canyon school and 4 years of Western civilization at the Dutch School of Southern California. I am also interested in teaching other topics such as Human Rights, international Relations, biblical history, Politics, writing and critical thinking.

About the lesson

We usually start by talking and connecting on a personal level, we talk about previously gained knowledge and study goals. Based on those goals and expectations we will work out study content and desired skills. Together we develop a study plan and targets. I will offer a personalized curriculum and will be able to adjust study methods according to the students desires and personal optimal learning process.

All ages but mostly Middle and High school.

During this time of Covid no events have been happening and so I think back to my work at the Sierra canyon school, remembering the fun we had creating an social justice art piece.
