About Claire
Hi! I'm an applied math major at UC Berkeley with a speciality in physics. Although I don't plan to become a teacher, I happen to be really good at teaching math (as well as other subjects- I'm not a one trick poney!). I subscribe to the ideology that no one is born to excel or fail in one subject- it's just how your taught and who your teachers are! I'm here to determine how you/your child learn and how I can accommodate that mode of learning!
I get a lot of satisfaction from seeing someone's face light up when they understand a concept. Not only am I proud of them but I very selfishly feel very proud of what we've done together :)

Firstly, I want to get to know them somewhat- talk about school, hobbies, what they want to do when they grow up. Then, I'll work out a couple of problems with them and see how the respond to different techniques: learn by example, hand holding through the process, encouragement, being blunt (it works for some!), etc. From there it should be smooth sailing unless we get to the frustration and self-doubt- that's more tricky. If you/your child feels comfortable enough to listen to me I think encouragement, a gentle hand, and honesty work best.
