About Zehra

I am a junior in the department of Biological System Engineering at Virginia Tech with minors in Biology and Biomedical Engineering. I have previous experience in babysitting; as I watched over a friend's little sibling while her parents and my friend were at work/out of town. I also have tutoring experience for elementary and high school students. I have tutored students since high school through different clubs. My speciality is math! I love answering kids curious questions about how the worlds work around us, the question "why" never gets old. I know a variety of study skills and test prep methods to ensure your child does well on their tests. Every child is different in how they understand material so I know numerous ways to help them understand.

I enjoy seeing students "ah ha" moments, when they finally understand what they are learning. You get this warm feeling when you see the student succeed. I want to share my knowledge of how to study and how to learn to other students because I know how it feels to struggle.

While I was in high school I was part of the Beta Club. My name was given to teachers so they could inform their students on potential tutors if they struggle in class. I have tutors many students, in math, chemistry, and history. My principle also requested me to help a student who was a senior and needed help getting through his last math class. I haven't had an issue with students being disappointed with my tutoring ability.

About the lesson

When first working with a student I like to get to know them a bit. Seeing what they are learning in class and what concepts they understand and don't. I also believe that, with math especially, seeing it visually represented can be incredibly helpful, which is why I bring a small whiteboard and a bunch of markers during tutoring sessions.
