About Friedrich

Let's face it.. school is not fun. My special ability is tricking children into thinking it is... and to think for themselves.

I tutor using concreteness as the foundation for understanding abstract concepts, while infusing some humor to make the concreteness attractive.

What do I mean by concreteness? Well, 3+2+1 is meaningless to a little kid. It even makes out adult eyes glaze over. If one were to instead say "3 friends are playing outside, and then 2 more join them, and then one more" the child can really start to equate math with something familiar, and therefore worth learning.

My methods of tutoring are statistically and scientifically proven to offer you the absolute best bang for your buck. So as ABBA would say; "take a chance on me" :)

I imagine that when making your final decision, you will be looking for someone who sticks out not only as a tutor, but as an overall positive influence in your child's life. I will let my LinkedIn profile speak for itself, because it is true.

In a word: Freedom. Then helping kids to realize their potential, because I know what it's like to hate school.

My parents never considered getting me a tutor, so I have a rather unusual appreciation and standard for what a tutor should be. If learning isn't at least a little fun, then why would a child pay attention?

How does anyone start teaching? By watching how a teacher teaches of course. We teach ourselves before we teach anyone else how to teach themselves.

Like Lionel Logue, I have no formal training.

Unless you count a lifetime of helping my friends, classmates, and family friends.

All communication is a process of encoding and decoding, so I start out by getting to know what the student is interested in.

What may be interesting to me (the neurotransmitters produced by gut bacteria) may be worse than learning the Chinese alphabet to the student.

Once I know how to speak their language and peak their interest, they will (theoretically) become curious. Once they become curious, all I need to do is offer passive support.

After all, the whole point of a good tutor is to help the child become curious and interested in learning. "The best tutor is the last tutor" that's my motto.

Mostly middle school and up.

If they don't seem like a friend, they aren't a fit.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Am I struggling due to lack of enthusiasm? Lack of background knowledge? Lack of curiosity? Or simply a lack of intellect (Hint: if it is the last one, it's probably all 3).

I do not have a standard pricing system. If the student is sapping away all my positive energy, I will gradually increase my rate exponentially. If the student is paying attention and reciprocating the positive energy, then I will keep my rate the same.
