About Dominic

I love the aha affect (when my students realize they get it), I enjoy knowing I was a part of making that happen and shorting the time it would have taken them otherwise. I like to get to know my students and try to make the concepts relevant to them. So, they can relate more to the material and better internalize it. I have a BA in Math Education from UMN and have taught integrated mathematics I and II (algebra, geometry, statistics, trigonometry, analysis, modeling, pattern recognition) for 4yrs, 9th and 10th grade, AP calculus for 2yrs to 12th grade, math league for 3 yrs, have substituted in k to 12 all subjects of math, science. Tutored total of 3 yrs in all math disciplines from basic math to AP calc and Physics and Tutored ACT prep. My wife and I home school our 4 children ages 4,5,7,9 for 5yrs, so we can travel. I addition to teaching and tutoring I have run my own business for 12 yrs and applied math in real world situations from bookkeeping to calculating material needed, estimating calculation surface areas, modeling programs. Analyzing data to make decision on sales and marketing, etc...

Tutoring allows me to make a difference in students’ lives in a more one to one or small groups setting. This allows me to get to know my students better and make the material more relevant to them. I have found this helps my student internalize the material better and gets them to the aha effect much faster. I just love knowing that I am able to compress the time it takes my students to get to the aha "I have got this" stage.

About the lesson

I get to know the student and what they like so I can better relate the concepts they are needing help with back to their interests when possible. I then find out what the student needs/wants help on. While working with the student I am always looking out for any area of miss understanding or gaps in knowledge that would be affecting the ability to understand the concepts that they need help with. Lesson would normally start with a little review of last concept cover to help with retention then move to next concept that student needs help with.
