About Serena

I am an aspiring professor! Teaching is my passion as it brings me so much joy to work with students and see them grow. I hold a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, with an interest in genetics, biochemistry, and evolution. I have served as a teaching assistant in my college for multiple classes where I taught and mentored undergraduate students. I have also been tutoring for 4 years in subjects ranging from 8th-grade algebra to AP level calculus. Should you require further details feel free to contact me! I started teaching at the teaching centre in 2018 as a volunteer project. I really enjoyed it so I continued teaching the next year at KUMON.

I have taught at KUMON where I worked with students ranging from age 5-14. I also volunteered at a teaching centre to teach children to read. I have experience tutoring 8th grade, 10th grade math, and AP Calculus.

About the lesson

I first have a look at their homework to get a sense of the content they are learning and identify their key struggles. I also discuss with the student and parents to determine our goals. I will make sure the student is confident and comfortable with class work before providing supplemental material.

I have worked with students aged 5-14, most recently I have tutored 10th grade Math and AP Calculus.

Look for a teacher that knows your learning style because everyone learns differently. If they are willing to change styles or discuss what does and does not work for you, you most likely will benefit from the tutoring sessions.
